How can I find out the expiry date of my certificate?
You can simply log into your PeopleCert account to check the renew-by date and the certification status. N.B.: This measure was introduced on January 1, 2023, but it also applies to certificates obtained before this date.
There are several options available for renewing your ITIL certification.

Option 1: Retake the same certification exam
Candidates can take and pass the same exam for the certificate they need to renew before the expiration date. -
Option 2: Take further courses and certifications
Candidates can decide to attend another course and pass the related exam, but this must be included in the same product suite. What is a product suite? It is the same family of certifications. For example: ITIL® Foundation belongs to the ITIL Product Suite. -
Option 3: Collect and log CPD Points
Candidates can obtain and log CPD points through the CPD program, for single or multiple certifications. For every Product Suite, candidates are required to submit a minimum of 20 CPD points annually, across various CPD categories, for three consecutive years. Following this period, the certification renewal date will be extended by another three years, and the cycle will continue. The CPD points must be submitted by the date when the candidate initially passed their most recent exam within the Product Suite. For example, if an exam was passed on June 1, 2022, the CPD points must be submitted by June 1 of each year.
What are the consequences of NOT renewing my certificate?
If you choose NOT to renew your certificate within the three-year period, you will remain listed in the Successful Candidates Register (SCR), and your certificate will still be valid. However, PeopleCert will add a note to your record indicating that your certification is not aligned with the current certification requirements.
- An expired certificate will still be accepted as a prerequisite for another exam (e.g., ITIL4 Foundation expired certification for a ITIL4 DITS exam). The certificate will be automatically updated by passing the other exam.
What if I need to renew multiple certificates?
If you hold multiple certificates from the same product suite, they will all share the same renewal date, which is 3 years from the date of your last passed exam. This means that if you need to renew more than one certificate, you can simply take an exam within the product suite!
For instance, if you obtained an ITIL 4 Foundation certificate in January 2023 and an ITIL 4 Specialist: Create, Deliver and Support certificate in October 2023, both of your ITIL 4 certificates should be renewed by October 2026.
