Certifications renewal - consistent 3-year requirement
- 1 january 2023 | all Global Best Practice certifications will need to be renewed after 3 years
- Non-renewal | means that the candidate will be removed from the successful-candidate register (SCR)
- This effects | every certification from 3 years prior to the above date – there is a transition period of 6 months
3 Routes how candidates can renew their certificates:
- Route 1 | Retake the exam before the renewal date
- Route 2 | Collect and log professional development points via our MyAxelos membership platform. 20 CPD points each year, across different categories of CPD, for 3 years consecutively
- Route 3 | You can choose to renew your certification by attending another course and taking an exam within the same product suite before the renewal date. The renewal date for all certifications within the certification suite will be automatically updated to the last certification sat
- To renew a certification, the learner will have options within the same product suite, so an ITIL certification cannot be renewed by obtaining a PRINCE2 one.
Product suites are as follows:
- ITIL® 4 Product Suite: All ITIL® 4 certifications
- Project, Programme & Portfolio Management Product Suite: PRINCE2®, PRINCE2® Agile, MoR®, MSP®, MoV®, MoP®, P3O®
- AgileSHIFT® Product Suite: All AgileSHIFT® certifications
- RESILIA® Product Suite: All RESILIA® certifications
Will the 3-year re-certification apply to ITIL® v3 products, e.g. ITIL OSA, ITIL Expert? Certification renewal requirements will NOT be applied to ITIL® v3 certifications.
Does a candidate have to retake all of their ITIL® 4 Managing Professional exams to keep their Managing Professional designation?
- If you have more than one certificate from the same product suite (eg ITIL 4), they will all share the same renewal date, which is 3 years after the most recent exam taken.
- For example, if you took ITIL 4 Foundation on 1st January 2021 and ITIL 4 Specialist: Create, Deliver and Support on 1 January 2022, both of your ITIL 4 certificates will have a renewal date of 1 January 2025.
